Plumb Bob: Golf Green Reader

Simulator Software

iPhone green reader: mark your ball, walk to the cup, and see the putting line, aim point, and break on the grass. Three free reads, then Pro.

About Plumb Bob: Golf Green Reader

Plumb Bob is a free iPhone app that scans a green with the camera. Mark the ball, walk the line to the cup, then hold the phone up behind the ball. It draws the putting line, an aim point, and the break on the grass, and turns uphill or downhill into a plays-like distance. iPad is supported, and Apple Watch can log the round.

Three reads are free. Plumb Bob Pro is $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year and starts with a free week. Measuring green speed is included: roll a ball 8 to 15 feet, or pick Slow, Medium, Fast, or Tour. A demo green works without going to a course, and current releases also track speed on a putting mat. Reads are computed on the phone. Use it for practice, lessons, and friendly rounds. Under Rule 4.3, a device that measures green slope is not allowed in a competition round.

Practical guide

How to use Plumb Bob

Plumb Bob is an iPhone green reader for practice and friendly rounds. It does not replace course-play software on a launch monitor.

What the read shows

Mark the ball, walk to the cup, then hold the phone up. Plumb Bob draws the line, aim point, and break on the grass, plus a plays-like distance. Roll a ball 8 to 15 feet for green speed, or pick Slow, Medium, Fast, or Tour. LiDAR iPhones measure depth; other iPhones use the camera, so scan slowly in good light.

Practice and friendly rounds only

Rule 4.3 does not allow a device that measures or interprets green slope during a competition round. Keep Plumb Bob for practice, lessons, and friendly rounds.

Price and devices

Three reads are free. Pro is $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, with a free week. The App Store lists iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch (round logging). There is no PC, projector, or launch-monitor setup.
